Background
It is spoken by nearly 4 million people. It belongs to the Benue-Congo family, Bantu group, Sotho subgroup. Southern Sotho or Sotho, Northern Sotho or Pedi and Tswana or Western Sotho are largely inherently intelligible but have generally been considered separate languages. It is a language of primary education in Botswana, and of secondary education in South Africa
